Unreadable drive, deleted files, a Mac that no longer starts: before buying new hardware, there is almost always something worth trying.
An unreadable drive or SSD, files deleted by mistake, a Mac that no longer starts: before buying new hardware, there is almost always something worth trying.
A question mark at startup, a flashing folder, a screen frozen on the Apple logo: in most cases the data is still on the drive. We take the Mac apart, read the drive on a test bench and copy whatever can be recovered before attempting any repair.
A deleted file is not destroyed straight away: as long as the space has not been overwritten, it can still be read. The reflex that saves the day: stop using the Mac and do not reinstall anything. Every hour of use reduces the odds.
The heaviest cases - a mechanical failure requiring a clean-room opening - are beyond what we do here. We say so plainly rather than attempt something that would compromise a later recovery.
A successful recovery is still a near miss. We set up the backup that will spare you the next one: Time Machine on an external drive, a network backup to a NAS, or an off-site copy for business data.
